What is the UK Safety Camera Network's Data Team?

The UK Safety Camera Network is a decentralized, ethical, and community-driven CCTV project.

Our job is to protect the data rights of members of the public and to ensure compliance with UK Law

We Believe In Full Legal Data Compliance

Every camera is backed by a detailed Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA).

We:

1. Use privacy masking for private windows or gardens

2. Follow UK GDPR and CCTV Code of Practice

3. Store data for a maximum of 31 days

4. Don’t monitor 24/7, footage is only accessed when needed

5. Log every access or use of footage

Transparency You Can See

Each camera gets a public Transparency Page.
It includes:
1. A link to the live feed (viewer only, no downloads) (UNDER REVIEW)

2. The limited DPIA for that specific camera

3. A secure form to request footage (e.g. crime victim, DSAR)

4. Just scan the QR code on any camera sign to access it.

How We Handle DSARs & Requests

1. You submit a request with a location and time.

2. We may ask for verified photographic ID.

3. If your identity matches the person in the footage, we redact others and provide the clip, and delete your Images & Videos from our systems (unless a lawful basis applies).

4. If not, we reject the request and delete your ID from our system.

5. Your data is protected, and so is everyone else's.

Note: We may require that you upload your ID to our secure link we may ask you to provide ID to ensure we are providing footage to the correct person and redact others to comply with GDPR in some cases.
